Reform is Needed

In class the focus was pretty much that the school system is no good and we need to reform it. I truly agree that we need to reform education but how??? How do we make everyone happy and not leave anyone out?
School is helps students learn social skills as well as educational skills. I think that it would be a great idea to have kids learn the basics when they are young and then when they get older they can start learning about the career that the student wants. All I can think about is all stuff that I had to learn but will never really use.I don't get why teachers have to teach only the stuff that is going to be on the test.
I know I don' t have all the answers but I do think that we need to stop the way we are testing students these days. All I can think about is my dad. My dad was a c/d student all throughout school. He wasn't interested in the school. When he got out he started farming and now he is very successful. He is one of the smartest people I know but when he was in school he was made to look like he was dumb. If they would have taught him want he was interested in it might have been different.
Reform is needed.

  1. I find this very interesting because yes clearly change is still needed but I recently studied abroad in Peru and worked in a special needs school. I was shocked at what I saw. First off the students were in a completely separate school and were given very few supplies. Also the students were all grouped together, there was no separation between levels or disabilities and the teachers were not even trained teachers but one thing they did have that is not always shown in the US is that they cared for those students and wanted the best for them. However clearly when it comes to reform of the education system, the US system is way ahead of others so we should be grateful.

  2. Reform is a huge issue in a lot of areas of our lives today. Education in my opinion is one of the most important. Students need to learn and be qualified for real jobs and positions in the real world. By just getting them through school is not enough. If they are not qualified they cannot take important jobs. This is a big reason why a lot of our economy is in trouble and we find new technology from overseas. We also need to be able to have critical thinking to be able to solve the issues of today and tomorrow. I really believe that the students we teach today will be the solvers of tomorrow. It is our jobs to make sure we can give them the best education and make changes in our classroom to promote success and these skills. Easier said than done, I know. If we do not have it in us to make the changes within ourselves and classrooms we will never see a change on a large scale.
