I found this blog when I was looking up information about special education and IEPs. The blog breaks down the "special factors" that should be included in the IEP. Special Education and Disability Rights Blog

Technology

I thought that this video had a good way of informing people about technology in the classroom. It is pretty funny but also very true. Check it out!

Google Docs In the Classroom

Wow Google does it again. What a great way to bring people and information together. I have used Google documents for the first time this summer for a group project. Usually when we are putting together a power point or something we have to email our information back and forth. It is truly a waste of time. Now with Google docs we can all work on it together. It is great. There may have to be some more improvements like formatting and stuff. Other than that I would use this in a classroom. I would also use this to do work on a presentation with peers and co-workers.

Social Media

Social Media has changed the way the people communicate. After watching the you tube videos and working on the wiki I realized that information is so easily accessible. It would truly be a crime for teachers not to use the internet.
Technology also changes the way teachers teach. I liked the you tube video that the students were taping the teachers. Teachers are so naive if they think that if they do something inappropriate with the students that it could not be recorded.
Social media can be used for good things and it could be used for bad. If the teacher restricts the students for using technology and social media it is only going to back fire. Teachers need to embrace technology and give students assignments that they can learn appropriate ways to social media.

Reform is Needed

In class the focus was pretty much that the school system is no good and we need to reform it. I truly agree that we need to reform education but how??? How do we make everyone happy and not leave anyone out?
School is helps students learn social skills as well as educational skills. I think that it would be a great idea to have kids learn the basics when they are young and then when they get older they can start learning about the career that the student wants. All I can think about is all stuff that I had to learn but will never really use.I don't get why teachers have to teach only the stuff that is going to be on the test.
I know I don' t have all the answers but I do think that we need to stop the way we are testing students these days. All I can think about is my dad. My dad was a c/d student all throughout school. He wasn't interested in the school. When he got out he started farming and now he is very successful. He is one of the smartest people I know but when he was in school he was made to look like he was dumb. If they would have taught him want he was interested in it might have been different.
Reform is needed.

Digital Texts

I think that digital texts are a great invention. I believe that it is going to change the way that everyone reads. I have to say though that I have not jumped on the digital text bandwagon. I like having the book in front of me to read. I also like having a library with books! I can see myself changing in the future when technology is even more advanced.
For the future I think that everyone is going to have some form of an IPad. Families will use this computer to read books to their children. It will be large enough so that people can see it sitting around them. Parents and teachers will be able to highlight words and put in definitions. They can also ask questions in the text. I think that it will make reading a lot easier and more fun.
